PAT testing or Portable Appliance Testing is an important part of any health & safety policy. At Kent Electrical & Fire, we provide some of the most cost-effective PAT testing services in Kent, and work with commercial clients to ensure their equipment is safe to use.
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 place a legal responsibility on employers, employees, and self-employed individuals to take reasonable steps to ensure that the use of portable appliances does not pose any danger. The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) extends this obligation in the following circumstances:
Regular PAT testing is essential to ensure your business complies with all health and safety regulations. The required level of inspection and testing depends on the risk of the appliance becoming faulty, the type of appliance, its usage, and the environment in which it is used. Contact our certified electricians to learn more about your PAT testing and maintenance needs.
*When PAT testing microwaves, it’s essential to inspect not only the electrical safety of the appliance but also its ability to contain microwave radiation. Standard PAT checks include visual inspection of the plug, flex, and casing, followed by earth continuity and insulation resistance tests. In addition, a microwave radiation leakage test must be carried out using a calibrated leakage detector to ensure the appliance does not emit unsafe levels of radiation. This is especially important in commercial or rental settings where appliance safety is legally required. Any microwave failing this test should be removed from service immediately.
We offer some of the most competitive PAT testing prices, with portable appliances charged at very low costs per item. Please call up to arrange a price from Kent Electrical and Fire Ltd.
